Back to School Carnival - August 23rd, 2008

Since 1998, the CEC has hosted the Back-to-School Carnival, a fun-filled day for families in the Adopt-A-Family Program. In recent years it has evolved into a family reunion with Adopt-A-Family graduates attending to update the CEC on their progress since graduation. This year families from Open Arms will also attend the event and estimated attendance is more than 400 children and their parents.

The Back-to-School Carnival will be held on Saturday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Richland Hills Church of Christ. The Carnival will include a variety of family friendly entertainment including crafts, games and a bounce house. They are also door prize drawings and lunch for all the families. The most heartwarming part of the day is when each child receives a backpack full of school supplies and a new outfit to begin the school year.

If you would like to "adopt" a child by providing clothing and/or school supplies, please contact Donna Riddick. It typically costs $100 per child to furnish a new school outfit (shirt, pants, underwear, socks, backpack). Donna will provide the name, age and sizes needed for each child you adopt.

Looking for a meaningful volunteer experience? There are also numerous volunteer opportunities on Friday, August 22 (set up) and Saturday, August 23 (coordinating activities, clean up). Please contact Cindy White to sign up.
