Volunteer Opportunities at the Community Enrichment Center
Food Pantry
–
Volunteers work between 7 am to 3 pm Monday, Tuesday and
Thursday, between 7 am and noon on Wednesdays and Fridays and
from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday nights. Volunteers inspect,
clean, sort, stock, select and box food for clients, and
register people when they come to the Food Pantry.
Adopt-A-Family and Open Arms Program Mentors -
Volunteers encourage and mentor families with children in the
Adopt-A-Family or Open Arms Program. Mentors are asked to make
at least two phone calls per month for at least three months. A
one-hour training class outlines the expectations and boundaries
for mentors. Mentors keep their family’s case manager informed
on any important issues that they may learn about in the family.
Mentors have a lot of latitude in terms of the amount of time
they spend with their family. This is a very rewarding volunteer
experience that can literally help change the direction that one
family is taking.
Second
Glance Resale Shop -
Proceeds from Second Glance benefit the Open Arms Program.
Volunteers work in a retail environment greeting and assisting
customers, stocking and other retail tasks. Volunteers are also
needed in the back to sort, organize and stock a variety of
items. The hours for the stores are 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Monday-Saturday. The store is located at 6308 Rufe Snow Drive
in North Richland Hills.
Literacy for
Life -
Volunteers assist our Education and Employment Case Manager in
facilitating GED preparation and adult literacy classes. These
classes are held at the CEC every Tuesday from 7:00 pm - 9:00
p.m and on Saturday from 10 am – 1pm..
Life Skills
Meetings -
Volunteers assist our Education and Employment Case Manager in
teaching, planning, designing and facilitating life skills
meetings. These are meetings for our clients that cover a
variety of topics including home ownership, housekeeping, money
management, etc. Meeting times and places vary.
Food or Toy
Drives - There is a year-round need for food in the Food Pantry
(especially the January to August time frame). The CEC can
provide a list of needed food items as well as suggestions for
food drive contests and team building activities. Toy drives in
November and December provide toys for the CEC Christmas Party.
Child Care -
Volunteers are needed to assist with child care at the Open Arms
campus every Monday from 6:30 pm -8:00 pm during the group
therapy session for our clients as well as during weekly
Literacy for Life classes (see above) and life skills meetings
(see above).
