Community Ministries is a faith-centered outreach whose goal is to build a stronger community. Its focus is on  issues related to social isolation, hunger and aging. Families in crisis find the support and encouragement they need to become stable and self-sufficient.

 

Are you in crisis?

  • Are you struggling to avoid foreclosure or eviction?
  • Are you unemployed or is the primary source of income for your household based on part time, temporary, seasonal, or low-income employment?
  • Are you falling behind in your financial responsibilities as the result of income loss caused by a recent health problem?
  • Are you feeling trapped, unable to get a better job, due to the restraints of child care responsibilities?
  • Are you a senior adult and feel you could use help with benefits counseling or would you just like to be part of a caring, socially active, fun group of seniors?
  • Are you a single parent and would you like to have a night out, enjoy a good meal, relax, get to know other single parents, learn about topics like parenting, budgeting, how to raise faith-centered children, or just find out where to go when you need help?
  • Are you in need of prayer and spiritual encouragement?

The CEC offers Free Financial Classes to employed families and individuals in Northeast Tarrant County, who make less than $50,000 annually. The goal is to instill long-term behavior changes, helping individuals set and achieve long-term financial goals. The focus is on goal setting, creating spending plans, taxes, record keeping, credit, saving, investing, insurance and retirement planning and creating awareness about predatory lending and consumer rights. One-on-one financial coaching is also available, call to set up an appointment. For more information, please call 817-281-1164 ext. 129.

The Food Pantry dispenses approximately 600,000 pounds of groceries annually to low income and elderly households in Northeast Tarrant County. Providing groceries to these families allows them to have funds to pay for other needs like rent, mortgage, utilities, education and medical expenses.

Food Drives and Volunteer Opportunities:
The Food Pantry is support by local churches, businesses and volunteer groups who host food drives and volunteer their time. Contact the Community Ministries staff at 817-281-1164 or cm@thecec.org about coordinating a food drive for the CEC.

The Senior Network provides a healthy, fun environment and social network for adults 62 and older. Addressing the issue of senior isolation, this ministry meets each Wednesday from 9:30 am – 12:00 pm for devotionals, games, exercise, senior pertinent speakers, day trips and service projects. Snacks are always provided and lunch is served on the first Wednesday of each month.

The Single-Parent Family Network exists to provide support and empowerment to divorced, separated, widowed and unwed parents and their children. This ministry meets on the third Thursday evening of each month for dinner, speakers, games, relevant conversations and enjoyable fellowship. Childcare is provided for children ages infant to 5th grade.
