Each year the CEC hosts a special Mother’s Day Dinner benefiting moms in
the Adopt-A-Family and Open Arms Programs. Most of these mothers are the only
adult in a family with young children and there isn't anyone to acknowledge them
on Mother's Day. The CEC staff and volunteers hold the annual dinner in their honor
to recognize their contributions to their families.
Door prizes, dinner and entertainment
are provided along with child care. This is a wonderful event that gives volunteers
a chance to meet some of the families being helped by the Adopt-A-Family and
Open Arms Programs.
This year’s event will be hosted by
the Colleyville Woman’s Club who generously provides food, beverages and
gifts as well as serve dinner to the mothers that attended.
If you would like to support this year's event by providing gifts or entertainment, please contact Donna Riddick. Volunteers are also needed to help with set up, decorating and cleaning up after the event. Please contact Cindy White about volunteering for the Mother's Day Dinner.
CEC donors make it possible for the organization
to accomplish its mission and help thousands of people in our community. Each year donors are recognized
at an annual luncheon featuring individuals who have graduated from a CEC program.
Please visit Our Support to learn more about supporting the CEC’s mission
and programs.
Each spring the CEC invites volunteers to enjoy an appreciation
dinner where dedicated volunteers are recognized for their contributions. Awards
are presented to volunteers that have made a particular contribution to the families
served by the CEC as well as volunteers who have contributed 100 hours or more
of volunteer time. These “Starflingers” receive a thank you gift
for their dedication to the CEC’s mission.
The 2009 winners are listed below.

The Grimsley-Robbins Award honors the Volunteer of the Year……………………………...........Norma Bird

Since 1998, the CEC has hosted the Back-to-School
Carnival, a fun-filled day for families in the Adopt-A-Family Program. In recent
years it has evolved into a family reunion with Adopt-A-Family graduates also
attending to update the CEC on their progress since graduation. More than 300
children and their parents typically attend the event.
Last year's Carnival had more than 300 kids and adults in attendance. Activities included a variety of family friendly entertainment
including crafts, games and a bounce house. There were door prize drawings
and lunch for all the families. The most heartwarming part of the day was when
each child received a backpack full of school supplies and a new outfit to begin
the school year.
If you would like to help with this year's event, sponsorships
are available and include recognition and publicity for your support. Please
contact Amy Walker or visit Program Event Sponsorships to learn more.
You can also “adopt” a child by providing clothing and/or
school supplies. Please contact Donna Riddick and she
will provide the name, age and sizes needed for each child you adopt.
Volunteers are needed on the Friday before the Carnival to set up for the event
and on Saturday to coordinate activities and clean up. Please contact Cindy White
to volunteer.
Each year the CEC hosts a Christmas event for families
in its programs as well as families from six local elementary schools. With the
help of the community, the CEC is able to provide food, toys and fellowship to
families who wouldn’t
have a Christmas without our help. More than 400 children and their parents are
expected to attend.
The CEC Family Christmas will be held at the Richland Hills
Church of Christ. Plans include a variety of family friendly entertainment including
crafts, games and a bounce house. Santa makes a special appearance at the party
and hands out gifts to each child. Other activities include lunch, family photos
and Christmas caroling. Parents have the opportunity to pick out toys for their
children and kids can make or pick out presents for their parents so everyone
has something to open on Christmas morning. Families also receive a voucher for
a holiday meal from the Food Pantry.
Sponsors are needed to provide support for the CEC’s
largest event of the year. Please contact Amy Walker or visit Program Event
Sponsorships.
If you would like to “adopt” a child or family
by providing gifts of toys and/or clothing, please contact Donna Riddick. Donna
will provide the name, age and sizes needed for each child and adult you adopt.
Would you like to host a holiday food or toy drive? Please
contact Ron Parish for a list of needed food items and suggestions for making
your food drive successful. Toys are needed for the Toy Room where parents select
a few items for children to open on Christmas day. Ron can provide a list of
suggested toys for all ages of children.
There are numerous volunteer opportunities for individuals, families and large
groups on Friday to help set up and on Saturday to coordinate activities and
clean up. Please contact Cindy White for more information or to sign up for a volunteer shift.
